My friend Claudia and I had a lovely catch up at the Chivas Masters last night.
The Chivas Masters is a cocktail-making competition that requires bartenders to create two fabulous drinks containing Chivas Regal whisky. It was held at Pernod Ricard’s swish Barangaroo headquarters. They’re waaaaay up on something like the 43rd floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
All those pretty lights!
Oh, and the drinks and slider burgers were gratis … Fah-bulous darling!
Except my friend Claudia is gluten intolerant and isn’t a whisky fan. I’ve promised to make it up to her if I get invited to a Champagne or Guinness Masters.
One of the whisky cocktails on offer was called the Morning Glory. I’m wondering if it was deliberately served in a tall champagne flute with an egg-white float …?
Claudia and I had a long chinwag about our teenagers … while feeling like we were totally surrounded by their peers at the event. Claudia was convinced we were the oldest people in the room.
A bloke called Louis McPherson from The Baxter Inn won the competition. I was fascinated by his pants – it would appear the new trend in chinos is for them to finish mid-calf.
All the finalists were so good natured about Louis winning and filled the room with their cheers when the announcement was made.
We wandered wearily home at around 8pm, which felt more like midnight. I don’t know if that was due to the whisky cocktails or old age. But I’ve always quite fancied an early night, so I was cool with it.
