Confrontation and I are not besties.
I avoid uncomfortable interactions at all costs.
So I’m really, really not looking forward to calling Hawaiian Airlines today about getting a refund on my flights to New York.
Have I told you about my airfare screw up? The morning the World Skipping Championships were cancelled, I called Hawaiian Airlines and they said it was no problem, I just had to let them know if I wanted a credit or a cancellation. The cancellation fee was $100 per ticket and I had to call a number the woman gave me.
I made the mistake of being indecisive and sat on it for a few hours. In those few hours the hounds of pandemic hell were released and every airline switchboard in the world became permanently jammed.
So I emailed Hawaiian about my refund, two weeks passed and they eventually sent me a reply, saying chirpy things like “Mahalo!” and giving me a credit.
I didn’t want a credit. Those two airfares to New York were massively expensive, as they were for the Fourth of July weekend. Oh, and there’s also the fact you won’t get me to New York again for a very, very, very long time.
Hawaiian Airlines doesn’t fly to many places from Australia (when it’s actually flying from Australia) and I can’t see me needing $4770 worth of airline credits any time soon.
The Aussie authorities are also saying it may not be until 2021 that we can travel internationally again. I’m not sure I’ll be keen even then.
There is a big ball of dread lodged in my stomach at the thought of demanding my money back.
Wish me luck.
Anyways, I can’t remember if I’ve told you about this stuff either. I have cabin fever brain fog. But I’m excitedly planning all the places I will visit in Australia when domestic travel is allowed.
I want to go to Kangaroo Island, Ningaloo Reef, Hobart, Hayman Island … that’s just the start of the list …
Do you have any Aussie destinations on your bucket list for when home isolation is over?
We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful, diverse country, I’m not seeing it being a problem at all that we won’t be allowed overseas for a while.
