Looks can be deceiving

last-photo-2

I’ve been spending an awful lot of time with Husband lately – as we get the house ready to sell – and it’s kinda freaky.

Yesterday we headed to Bunnings to choose decking paint (our jooshing job for Monday). As we stood talking to the paint guy about what shade would be best, I couldn’t help thinking we look just like any normal married couple … except we’re not. We’re getting a divorce.

And the paint guy would never have guessed. We laughed, we chatted, we joked … the warmth and comfortable rapport between us was palpable.

But, at the counter, waiting for the paint to be mixed, I started feeling nauseous … and not because I was worried about how purple it would be when it came out (if you’re reading this my beloved real estate agent, don’t panic. We promise go over it with nice, safe chocolate if it looks like a hippie house.)

And then the tears welled up in my eyes: how can things be so normal and so abnormal at the same time?

Mind you, the photo above was taken just a week or two before we split up. I wonder what a body language expert would make of it? Comments on Facebook at the time included: “You look very happy” and “God you look chilled Alana. Can I have some!”

Yep, looks can be deceiving. They even fooled me.

But enough with the broken record stuff … let me lighten the mood by showing you my revamped playroom. I’m stoked with it.

Before, it looked like this …

Now it looks like this …

Pretty impressive, huh?

  1. Good job on the playroom, Alana! I still reckon there’s an opening for you in interior design, especially now, with the purple decking reveal!
