Languishing

As forshadowed, I didn’t make it to the French bubbles event I was invited to last night, which is a bummer because it sounded very cool.

It was called AIX In The City – a celebration to launch the 16th vintage of AIX Rosé and BEAU VIVA, a premium alcohol-free sparkling rosé.

Yeah, they can keep the second one, I have no idea why alcohol-free wine is a thing.

Anyways, the celebration was held at the Park Hyatt and included drinks and canapés alfresco with views of the Sydney Opera House. Damn! I hate missing out.

And it wasn’t exhaustion that kept me away. It turned out I was sick.

I spent yesterday languishing in bed and on the couch, feeling completely wiped out by fatigue and a sore throat. Can lack of sleep due to socialising too much over the weekend cause a sore throat? I wonder if I caught something on the plane?

I’m not very good at sick days, so I worked for a bit, felt sorry for myself a lot and treated myself to a Vietnamese chicken soup for lunch.

Today dawns with me feeling slightly better and the sore throat easing off.

I feel a bit guilty about taking more time off work, but I’m having a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis at lunchtime, which means more PTSD fluid consumption.

The imaging place sent me an email requesting that I drink one litre of water one hour prior to my appointment time and arrive 45 minutes beforehand. Fun logistics. That’s a massive hole in my day.

My doctor is also hassling me to book an appointment to discuss the results of my last procedure, but I’m thinking I will wait for the results of this procedure so I get two verdicts for the price of one.

I’m also tossing up whether I need to book a return visit to the dentist. My jaw is giving me grief. I can barely open it and chewing my ham and cheese baguette on Monday was a bit of an ordeal. Actually, is that a dentist thing or a doctor thing?

And, really, how many medical issues does someone want to tackle at the same time?

Late middle age has a lot to answer for.

Song of the day: Thompson Twins “Doctor, doctor” (fun fact: a Thompson Twin was a school dad in a suburb near me when the kids were little)
