Slaving away

I had dinner this week with the woman I replaced as the body corporate slave.

She sold up about 18 months ago to escape the drudgery. I miss her and not just because she used to take care of every thankless task in the building.

It’s always great to catch up and vent. She also had some excellent tips on why there might be a leak in the garage.

All in all, very productive.

We met at Masterchef star Sarah Tiong’s new restaurant, Calamansi, which recently opened opposite the Hayden Orpheum in Cremorne.

Sarah was a MasterChef fan favourite in 2017 and returned in 2020. I didn’t realise she grew up in Northbridge, went to school at Neutral Bay Primary and then SCEGGS Redlands – and still calls the lower north shore home.

We sat at the far table in the pic below and clinked glasses of Prosecco…

After ordering, we chitter chattered our heads off while sipping pinot noir and eating delicious food.

We chose the Singapore chilli crab croquettes, beef rendang and sweet and sour brussel sprouts. Nom, nom.

I’m keen to return for the dishes I’ve since heard are the local favourites – Char Siu pork belly skewers and Sarah’s mother’s Malaysian chicken curry.

Now I’m limping through to the long weekend. Today’s a hectic one, I’m heading to the office for a meeting, then I’m taking a few flex hours off in the afternoon so I can catch a shuttle bus at 5.10pm to an outdoor gig. Pray it doesn’t rain …

Have a great weekend and I’ll catch you on Tuesday.

PS What’s the earliest you’ve ever started packing for a holiday? Asking for a friend …

PPS Go the Knights!

Song of the day: The Rembrandts “I’ll be there for you”
