My sister stayed at my place last night and spent most of the evening telling me I needed to blog about the Newcastle Knights being in the NRL Grand Final.
Novocastrians are beside themselves because the Knights haven’t made the Grand Final since 2001.
And she’s caught the fever after moving back to her birthplace.
She sat on my sofa playing funny videos about the win.
For example, former Sunrise host Natalie Barr’s interview with Matthew Johns after the Knights’ first win in 1997 has been doing the rounds again.
His legendary answer when Nat asked him what it felt like was this: “It was better than … it was better than Lego. It was better than Lego. It was better than Lego.”
The response plays a starring role in a “public health announcement” reel filmed by Hunter Medical Research Institute (literally everyone is getting behind it, even serious medical types), that my sister reckons is the funniest of the lot …

People are even painting their homes and shopfronts red and blue as the city rallies behind the home team. They may regret that later when they try to paint over cobalt blue and vivid red.
I am a bit scared to admit I didn’t watch the game and I don’t feel terribly invested in the Grand Final.
But my sister is OBSESSED.
Will I be watching the Grand Final? Hmmm, not sure.
I know, I know …
But my sister definitely will. She’s even wondering how many hundreds of dollars to pay someone on Facebook Marketplace for a Knights jersey, as they’ve sold out across the state.
