I don’t quite understand why, but I’m beyond excited about seeing Taron Egerton play Elton John in Rocketman.
I’m fascinated by Taron, he’s avoided becoming a household name or a gossip column staple while being the most amazing chameleon. He’s played roles ranging from Eggsy in Kingsman to Eddie The Eagle and now Elton.
And it turns out he can sing too!
I take my hat off to him. He’s a clever one.

The reason I’m a little confused by my excitement is that I wasn’t an Elton fan in my youth. Crocodile Rock was fun and Candle in the Wind was moving, but that’s about as far as my interest extended.
I got freebie tickets to a gig he did in the Hunter Valley once and was like, yeah, whatevs.
But geez I love Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer and all the rest these days.
And I’ve realised I know very little about Elton’s life. So I’m super curious. (Although Elton appears to be a little too excited about the movie, which indicates vigorous sanitisation.)
I also adored watching Bohemian Rhapsody. That moment when Freddie walks up the stairs and onto the stage for Live Aid slayed me.
I’ve become oddly enamoured with music that wasn’t on my playlist when I was younger: early Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Kiss …
What’s with that? Is it an old age thing?
Who knows.
Anyways, I can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait for Rocket Man.

I’ve been meaning to answer this for a few days. Better late than never.
I love Elton John, but think I really “discovered” him at the time of Diana’s death when he played and sang at her funeral. I love “Tiny Dancer” – and Rocketman, too. However, all I can think of now when I see and hear the words “rocketman” is Donald Trump’s nickname for Kim Jun Un! LOL!
Liking un-liked music as we get older, I think is more of an appreciation for how good music was and that it’s standing the test of time. I’m really looking forward to seeing the Elton movie.
