Sometimes its the little things in life that can be the most lovely.
I needed a surf fix earlier this week, so I arranged to meet DD at the beach after work.
I got there early and settled onto the sand to watch the waves while I waited for him.
When he arrived, he was carrying a bottle of prosecco and two champagne glasses.
He popped the cork and poured two glasses, we clinked and took a few sips, then we plunged into the waves as the rain started sprinkling down.
It was gorgeous and refreshing and the laughter burst from me the way it always does when I’m in the ocean.
When the cold started seeping into our bones, we waded back to the beach to wrap ourselves in towels and share a few more bubbles.
DD is addicted to honey soy chicken chips, so he brought a packet of those along too … and that was our dinner. It was a long way from five-star, but I loved sitting on the sand, crunching those chippies and drinking prosecco as we watched the waves crash – so much more fun than a stuffy restaurant.
The memory will sustain me when reality and responsibility rear their ugly heads: that golden half hour when life was a tiny bit magical.
Have you managed to squeeze a few minutes of sanity into the silly season?
