Sweet dreams in The Old Alpaca Shed

I spent two blissful nights last week sleeping in my first Air BnB – The Old Alpaca Shed. It’s owned by my dear friends Bronwyn and Simon and is literally an old alpaca shed that’s been turned into rustic, charming accommodation.

The Old Alpaca Shed is located near a little village called The Channon, which is about 18 kilometres northwest of Lismore and about 21 km from Nimbin, in NSW.

Unfortunately, I missed the town’s famous crafts market, held on the second Sunday of each month on the Channon oval. They apparently attract visitors, musicians and vendors from around the district.

But I did get to relax in the most beautiful surroundings.

Here’s what Bronwyn has to say about The Old Alpaca Shed on the Air BnB website:

“Enjoy the views of the lush countryside from the covered porch. Shower under the stars (or sun) in the outdoor bamboo shower. Stroll down to the creek to spot water dragons, turtles, kingfishers, wallabies and maybe even a platypus. Hand feed the small herd of alpacas with lucerne (provided). Challenge your travelling companion to a match of Boules on the lawn. Cook a barbecue dinner on the barbecue.”

Sadly your visit won’t include some of the extra privileges of mine, which included drinking French champers on the deck at dusk and sending the kids up to the main house at sparrow’s fart for french toast.

But you’ll still have a bulk fun time.

Here are some snapshots from our stay …

I thoroughly recommend The Old Alpaca Shed if you fancy getting away from it all.

  1. Thanks for that. Seeing as I do live on the GC, it’s just down the road. I’m off to check out prices to see if maybe we can make it there for a weekend away.
Glad you had a good time.
