Worrying less and laughing more

It hits you like a punch when you hear a friend is clinging to life on an emergency operating table.

It’s also a reminder of how trivial my concerns can be and how precious every day should be.

I have everything crossed right now that my old mate will be OK. He was so lovely to me during my marriage break-up. He even offered to have my ex roughed up (I’m pretty sure he was joking) and expressed his incredulity that my husband would leave me.

Bless him.

The world would be a dimmer place without Steve in it, so I’m praying for the tough bastard and rejoicing in the progress he’s already made.

It reinforces my resolution for 2015: to worry less and laugh more.

The delightful Pink Patent Mary Janes blogged “15 Fab Things” over the weekend. It was her version of New Year’s resolutions and included enrolling in French for Travellers class, learning to play her ukelele and seeing more live music.

That makes her sound very dreamy, but there was also lots of practical stuff on the list that I could relate to like … deep breath … backing up all her computer stuff.

I’m hopeless with everything on her list, both the dreamy and the practical.

But I’ve resolved to fill my year with lots of dreamy and practical wins. The dreamy stuff is what keeps life an adventure. And the practical stuff is what keeps the wheels turning.

I want 2015 to my year. I’m hoping it’s your year too. And I’m fervently hoping it’s Steve’s.

Song of the day: Pete Murry “Better Days”
