Just keep livin’

The house jooshing has ground to a halt following an ill-advised brush  (or should that be tarring?) with mixed drinks on Monday night. I’d been so chipper and go-get-em until then too. Blah.

Fortunately I made some progress in the living room before the setback. So I thought I’d share the shots …

That’s my dawg on a Persian rug we inherited from Husband’s parents. Great colours, huh? The art deco lounge behind him was discovered many, many years ago at an antique centre on Parramatta Road (Husband and I used to love antique browsing pre-kids). It was covered in brown floral velvet back then and one of the armchairs reeked of stinky dog. Nothing got that smell out – we eventually had to get the whole thing completely restuffed, resprung and recovered to salvage it.

I’m a bit schizophrenic in my decorating tastes: I oscillate between beach house and Moroccan luxe. The two definitely don’t go together … though I sometimes Google what “Morroccan beach houses” look like …

The sideboard belonged to a great aunt, I think. My grandmother had lavished it with a coat of thick, glossy cream paint. An expensive trip to a furniture restoration place revealed it to be this gem.

Speaking of my grandmother, I was living overseas when her house was sold but I asked my mum to keep her button collection for me. As a kid I loved that button collection, I thought it was the ultimate treasure trove.

The glass bowls are from my nan’s place too.

The kids and I went away for the weekend in January and came home to discover Husband had hung all their artworks on the wall. These are just a few of them. Clever little buggers.

Malabar Beach is covered in sea glass (well, at least it was a few years ago), so I trekked there one weekend and got the family to help collect armfuls of it for me to put on display in this glass bowl.

And that’s it for my latest show and tell.

How’s your week been?

PS The heading is a reference to Matthew McConaughey’s fave catchphrase (it’s a line from his breakthrough film role in Dazed And Confused), and a foundation he’s established to help high school students. Although mainly when I think about Matthew, it’s like this …

      1. lol… she wont let me have a big casserole dish that she will never use coz she doesnt cook… i hardly think she would let me have something that could possibly maybe be of some miniscule use in the future to her like a button!! lol
