I survived my very busy Thursday and you will be stoked to hear that Freddie the Fibroid’s size has slightly diminished.
Maybe by a millimetre or two.
He’s still big, but not the biggest the radiologist has ever seen.
However, his girth still makes it a bit tricky to check my ovaries and it was VERY uncomfortable having my organs shoved around by the ultrasound wand as the radiologist tried to get a good view of them. Wince.
Afterwards, I raced to work so I could put in a few solid hours before ducking to the Pullman Grand Sydney Harbour to meet the very talented distiller from Morris Whisky, Darren Peck, and learn more about his latest releases.
Peck is fortunate to have Morris Wines’ award-winning fortified wine barrels at his disposal to mature his whiskies. Morris’ Grand Reserve Muscat is insanely delicious. People really need to get back into fortifieds – they’re goooooood.
They played a big role in my youth – not in a partying way, but because my ex-husband’s parents lived near the heartland of fortified wines, Rutherglen, and we spent many happy afternoons exploring the region’s cellar doors.
After meeting Darren, it was back to the office for a few hours, which were a little torturous because I’d forgotten my glasses in my flurry to get out of the house.
I finally gave up trying to see the computer screen and headed home to cook a couple of steaks to share with the youngest during a rare visit to Sydney.
Then I talked too much during the body corporate meeting (as usual), including calling for the gardeners be sacked for ghosting of me and failure to clip the hedges after three requests.
Oh, but I forgot to tell you about Wednesday night!
DD surprised me with tickets to see Amplified: The Exquisite Rock and Rage of Chrissy Amphlett, Sheridan Harbridge’s (pictured main) tribute to the Divinyls lead singer, who passed away from breast cancer in 2014. The show channels Chrissy’s fierce spirit through anecdotes and songs and was uplifting and harrowing in equal turn.
Sheridan was incredible in it, as were her backing band, but I was very confronted by some of the aspects of Chrissy’s life – it was such a tough and rough ride for her.
I would not have had the mettle for the sex, drugs and rock n’ roll lifestyle of the ’80s. But Chrissy fearlessly exploded onto male-dominated stages, taking the band from the sticky carpets of local pubs to the top of the global charts (and had bottles thrown at her head from the audience in the process).
DD absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop raving about the musicianship.
I remain dazzled by the show’s closing number, “I touch myself”. How did a song about self pleasure made it to number one on the Aussie charts in the 80s without me realising (at the time) what it was about.
That said, there were plenty of other songs in the same subject matter genre that also went over my head … Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop”, The Vapours “Turning Japanese”, Billy Idol’s “Dancing with myself” …
There is more rock in my future this evening … including another rocker with a self-pleasure song in his repertoire … I’ll tell all next week. Have a great weekend.
Song of the day: Divinyls “I touch myself”
