Hollywood went on holidays last week for Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t mean celebrities shut up shop. Babies still needed to be born, funny videos still needed to be filmed, real people still needed to be photobombed …
Meanwhile Australia went into news overload with a slew of resignations and blissful baby announcements.
Here’s what went down:
>> Grant Denyer decided to put his family first and leave his second TV job in a year. He announced he’s stepping down from Million Dollar Minute to spend more time with wife Cheryl and their daughter Sailor, after tiring of the weekly commute from his home in Sydney to the studios in Melbourne. Grant resigned from Sunrise earlier this year after suffering exhaustion.
>> Mary Coustas and her husband George Betsis announced the arrival of their daughter on Mary’s Facebook page, writing, ”We’re so very happy to announce the arrival of our much anticipated baby girl Jamie Betsis. Baby & Mother are in exceptional health, father still doing cartwheels. Thank you for all your messages of support & love throughout this journey.”
>> Jennifer Love Hewitt announced two huge life events last week – a secret wedding and the birth of her first child, a baby girl. “Jennifer Love Hewitt and her husband Brian Hallisay are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter,” her rep said. “Autumn James Hallisay was born on November 26.” A source told US magazine that the couple “got married recently in private.”
>> Former Neighbours star Holly Valance, 30, gave birth to a baby girl, Luka Violet Toni. Her husband Nick Candy, 40, told The Telegraph the name Toni was a tribute to his dad, who died six weeks ago. “Her nickname will be LuLu but if she ever goes into business LuLu Candy doesn’t quite work,” he said.
>> It was announced that Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am are joining TheVoice Australia as coaches in 2014; replacing Seal and Delta. Delta and Joel Madden were also announced as the first two coaches announced for The Voice spin-off The Voice Kids.
>> She was the quirky, bespectacled kid in Little Miss Sunshine, but Abigail Breslin wants the world to know she’s all grown up and sexy. The 17-year-old has posed topless for a photoshoot with the director of her latest film, Final Girl, Tyler Shields. Breslin told E!, “I don’t make these conscious decisions to do it to, like, prove to the world that I’m grown up. I think people see my work and see what I do and see that I’m grown up … I do want to try different things, but it’s all for fun.”
>> Imagine posing for your wedding photos then realising you’d been photobombed by a celebrity! Zach Braff happened to be walking past a couple posing on a pedestrian crossing in New York and cracked a grin for the shot. “I might be mistaken but I think Zach Braff totally photobombed my newlywed couple. 🙂 #zachbraff #scrubs #photobomb,” Reinking Tweeted.
>> Kim Kardashian gave a video tutorial on how to take a selfie. So if you want to know how to look like this on social media, click here.
>> So Prince William is a Bon Jovi fan. Who knew?! During a charity event in London last night, performer Taylor Swift and the future king of England joined Jon Bon Jovi onstage for a rendition of “Livin’ On a Prayer.” And it is every bit as delightful as you can imagine. Click here to take a look.
>> Prosecutor Jane Carpenter has slammed allegations that celebrity chef Nigella Lawson used cocaine, cannabis, and prescription pills “daily” for more than a decade. The allegations were brought up in court on Tuesday in the case against two sisters who worked for Nigella who have been charged with defrauding Lawson’s ex-husband Charles Saatchi. “This is a totally scurrilous account which has been raised by the defense, and the timing is no coincidence at all,” she said.
Lawyers for the defendants cited an email from Saatchi in which he wrote: “Now the Grillos will get off on the basis that you were off your head on drugs and you allowed the sisters to spend whatever they liked, and yes, I believe every word the Grillos said.”
>> Kanye West’s [incredibly self-indulgent] video for his single ‘Bound 2’ has already spawned a spoof. And it’s hilarious. James Franco and Seth Rogen decided to re-enact Kanye’s now-infamous video, which features him riding a motorbike while being straddled by his topless fiancee, Kim Kardashian. Click to see their version here.
>> The Daily Mail reported that the friendship between Rupert Murdoch and Tony Blair has collapsed because of the former UK PM’s friendship with the media mogul’s ex, Wendi Deng. Tony insists his relationship with Ms Deng is platonic, but Rupert has apparently refused to speak to him since he filed for divorce.
According to the Daily Mail: “Sources close to Mr Murdoch in London say that staff at his home in California claimed Mr Blair and Ms Deng stayed there overnight at the same time on weekends in October 2012 and April this year, without Mr Murdoch’s knowledge … There is no suggestion by this newspaper of any impropriety by Mr Blair or Ms Deng. And Mr Blair’s friends have repeatedly denied he had an affair with Ms Deng.”
>> Lara Bingle took aim at Famous magazine after it published photos of her on holiday wearing a bikini, in which cellulite is visible on her thighs. Posting a photo on Instagram of the magazine’s snaps alongside a photo taken on the same day printed in Who magazine, Lara wrote: “Perpetuating self doubt in all women in the name of making a quick buck. Sickening. Same day different magazine. YOU ARE A DISGRACE FAMOUS MAGAZINE @famousweekly”
>> Robbie Williams fans, you’re in for a shock. The singer has been cast in the upcoming BBC series Gangsta Granny, and he’s almost unrecognisable with his greased-back hair and spangled outfit. Hilariously, Robbie plays a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ performer named Flavio Flavioli in the show, which was created by David Walliams, who you probably remember from Little Britain.
>> And finally, it was Thanksgiving in the US this week. Click here for a gallery showing how 26 (and counting, I don’t know when to give up) celebrities marked the occasion on social media. You’ll never guess what Lindsay Lohan got up to … And as for what Ashton Kutcher did with his turkey …
