Well … that’s the school holidays virtually over … I muddled frantically through, my spoilt rotten kids had a blast going to art class, tennis camp, the movies, their former nanny’s place … The eldest even got swept off to Jamberoo water park by my fabulous sister (in icy temperatures … good luck to them).
My mum shouted the youngest and I pizza on Friday night before she bon voyaged on a cruise. And – close family that we are – she discovered once she was on board that her brother-in-law was floating off on the same ship.
How’s that for a small – and blissfully ignorant – world?
Anyways, on with the show – here’s what I’ve been up to on HouseGoesHome and iVillage this week.
Let’s start with HouseGoesHome …
I got all philosophical over
Groundhog Day‘s message and how much I loved watching the movie again, although a commenter griped: I have to agree with your kids – Groundhog Day is really not good. I’d rate it as one star, if that!
I nervously anticipated getting trolled after writing about getting free shoes for the kids and raspberry slushies at a screening of Planes, in a blog called Spoilt Rotten.
Over at iVillage …
>> Do you think you’d never forget your child in a car? Think again. The Perth tragedy of the little boy left in a car by his dad teaches us a harsh lesson. As iVillage writer Jo so movingly said: “I feel nothing but compassion for this family, because I’ve done the same thing myself.”

>> Getting behind the wheel today? Well, you might want to reconsider. A Saudi Arabian cleric has revealed the little-known “side-effect” driving has on a woman’s body:

>> This woman didn’t know she was pregnant when she fell into a coma for two years. What happened next defies belief:

>> An exhausted dad – and one of my favourite male bloggers – insists: “When you have little kids you take trips, not holidays.” Click here to read why A “holiday” is for sipping drinks at 10am and gazing at palm trees. When kids are involved it needs another name…

>> Would you let your four-year-old give you a tattoo? This dad did… Read the details here:

And I was stunned to find that most respondents were all for it.
Ally wrote: “Nawww look at his little tongue! And, yes I would!”
Kim wrote: “Absolutely! I think it’s a great original idea.”
And Francine wrote: “I want one of his little people he draws tattooed on me! Lol. So cool.”
WTF???
>> A dear friend wrote an anonymous piece: I swore I’d never do to my children what my mother did to me and then…

>> And this one …” One of my babies has feet; two of them have wings.” Read this mum’s story here >>

>> What would you do if your wedding was cancelled after the arrangements were made? This is the beautiful thing one bride decided to do with her feast:

On to the fun stuff …
>> This one caught my fancy because cat’s cradle is going OFF at the kids’ school after a retro fete. Everywhere I go there are kids with loops of wool doing twisty stuff. So … Friendship bracelets, cat’s cradle and other retro crafts and games to pass on to your daughter this weekend:

>> David Bowie’s Space Oddity has been given a makeover by a real-life astronaut (in space!) and it’s AWESOME. Watch it here: http://bit.ly/GC1xGE
For some INSANE reason people haven’t clicked on the bloody thing. They are NUTS. Although a proud moment came when I was showing Husband and the eldest came scurrying out saying: “I hear DAVID BOWIE doing Major Tom!”
PS Thanks to Megz for the tip-off.
>> Time for your daily dose of cute: Wearing a thick knitted jumper is probably the last thing you feel like doing right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate these adorable photos of cats wearing sweaters. Click here: http://bit.ly/1aJn5Lk
(Actually, someone took offence at this sell, saying we were discriminating against people still living in cold conditions … oh, yes, they did. )
