You can guess from the title of this blog post that I’ve jetted off to Tahiti for a cruise.
I’ve been able to identify children of the 70s by their reactions over the past week based on their response when I tell them my destination.
When I say “Tahiti”, they automatically reply: “Tahiti sounds nice”.
Even the check-in bloke said it at Sydney Airport. Whoever came up with the idea for this ad in the 1970s is a GENIUS …
It was a very bleary 4.50am when we arrived for our flight to Tahiti.
Barbaric timing.
But somehow I rallied for a glass of bubbles at 6.30am. Ah, well, as the flight attendant cheerily said “it’s 5pm somewhere!”

We spent a boring four hours at Auckland Airport to ensure we didn’t miss our connecting flight to Papeete and eventually landed the night before we left. Gotta love the International Date Line.
I crashed in bed and slept for more than nine hours – unprecedented – before going for a twirl around the local produce markets (which were packing up at 9am, apparently French Polynesians are early risers who prefer to hit the markets at 6am and have lunch at 11am.
Then DD had an hour or two of work to do before we grabbed a bite to eat at a seaside restaurant as chickens pecked the ground around us and a duo strummed guitars while singing traditional Tahitian songs.

I ordered a Tahitian specialty, poisson cru au lait de coco, raw tuna marinated in coconut milk with a zest of lime and served with fresh raw vegetables.

Finally it was time to board our home for 16 nights – Le Jacques Cartier – a ship in the Ponant fleet.
We’re exploring three island groups over the next few weeks – the Society Islands, Tuamotu and Marquesas. It’s a bucket list trip that we excitedly booked around 18 months ago. I can’t believe we’re finally here.
Below is a map of our journey …

We’ve just woken up for our first stop in Moorea. Stay tuned.
Oh and check out the fortunes that were inside our cookies on Saturday night …

Song of the day: It has nothing to do with Tahiti, but I am OBSESSED with Harry Styles singing Psycho Killer. I could do without the misspelling of psycho …
