Exciting developments

Yesterday was filled with lots of exciting developments.

The plumber called to let me know it was only going to cost $15,000 rather than $25,000 to fix the damaged sewer pipe in the backyard.

Hoorah! How often does a quote come down???

At lunchtime I submitted all my paperwork for my … sigh … colonoscopy next week. Sooooo many awkward questions about my health needed to be answered, plus I had to reveal my weight. Blah!

But I realised the weirdest thing while I was signing the paperwork. Well, it’s only weird because I failed to realise it previously.

I couldn’t work out why I always found it so hard to sign things electronically and it’s because I’m left handed, but I use my right hand for mouse work.

Didn’t I feel like a ditz when I switched the mouse over to my left hand and made a much more passable attempt at my signature. Although it felt ultra weird and clunky to have the mouse in my left hand.

At 4.30pm I attended a meeting that has the potential to be life-changing. I can’t say too much now. Spoilers. But I will advise ASAP. Sorry to be a tease.

Then I jumped on a train to Gadigal Station and walked to the very funky Ace Hotel for a rye whiskey tasting in its Ace Suite.

The Gospel team were in town to showcase their newest whiskey release, Bonded Rye.

It’s the first whiskey to be released into The Gospel’s core range in over six years. And its the first Bottled in Bond Whiskey from an Australian brand.

A bonded whiskey has been distilled in a single season, at a single distillery, by a single distiller, and then matured for more than four years.

The Ace Suite was very funky with a 70s vibe and the concept for the tasting was to feel like you were at a party with friends.

It was a bit confronting when I first arrived … all sweaty after getting lost in Surry Hills and having to ask some lovely cops for directions … because I didn’t know a soul in the room.

This was very unusual because after five years of attending whiskey events, I usually know someone.

Then I made eye contact with a fashion stylist called Marvin, who was wearing an emerald green suit to match my emerald green top, and we instantly bonded. Soon afterwards my friend Cody arrived in khaki and we made friends with someone from Boss Hunting who was in green animal print and the party got started (that’s us pictured main – good heavens I look decrepit).

The Gospel co-founder took us through a tasting of the latest addition to the distillery’s repertoire.

Then they started serving delicious Manhattans, which are one of my favourite cocktails and always remind me of my high school friend Estelle as they are her fave serve.

Much as I would have liked to end the night sipping an Old Fashioned downstairs with my new friends, I decided to err on the side of caution and go home #restraint.

I’m out again tonight #exhausted. I really need to remember I’m 58. I don’t want to be 58, it irks me.
