Never gets tired

The eldest and I sat down for another Doctor Who marathon last night, this time accompanied by schnitty and sweet potato fries.

So many health foods in my week.

David Tennant continued to transfix me with his chiselled gorgeousness, especially when he kisses Madame de Pompadour or, more accurately, when she kisses him!

Swoon.

It never gets tired … although I do, so I had to call it a night after three episodes because I needed put the finishing touches on my Drinks Digest newsletter before bed, which includes an indulgent The Love Boat story.

TV shows were SO good when I was growing up … Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie

Anyways, I used the fact that the bartender from The Love Boat attended a Princess Cruises party as an excuse to run a story about it on Drinks Digest.

Princess Cruises marked an historic milestone in Sydney Harbour this week—50 years of cruising across Australia and the South Pacific.

The event was hosted aboard the Discovery Princess following her inaugural arrival Down Under. Sadly I wasn’t invited, but Ted Lange, who played Isaac the bartender in the TV series, was a special guest!

And he clinked glasses with Mitch and Mark from The Block! You can read more here.

Remember when The Love Boat filmed a few episodes in Australia? Oh, the giddy excitement of seeing the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the tellie!

Maybe that’s why I’m so hooked on cruises in my later years … I have my eye on one that concludes in Venice … how bucket listy would that be?

Less exciting is some of the absolute absurdity that has leaked out of the US in the past 24 hours.

For example, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered diplomats to revert to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor Antony Blinken’s decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move, according to a leaked internal cable.

The department switched to Calibri, a modern sans-serif font, in January 2023, saying it was a more accessible font for people with disabilities because it did not have decorative angular features and was at the time the default in Microsoft products.

You could not make this shite up. (And New Times Roman is such an ugly, old-school font – they’re not Knights Templar, it’s the 21st century.)

Also, to put the final nail in the coffin of tourism growth for the US, officials are proposing that visitors from countries including Australia be asked to provide a five-year social media history as a condition of entry,

As well as the collection of social media information, they are proposing the gathering of an applicant’s telephone numbers and email addresses used over the last five and 10 years respectively, and more information about their family members.

Sounds like way too much hard work for a holiday to me.

OK, I’d better get moving, I have a day in the office to attend, which includes a Christmas plate lunch.

Song of the day: Jack Jones “The Love Boat”

  1. I watched all of those shows and loved them. I was also a big fan of Charlie’s Angels, Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman. The latter is sometimes on one of the obscure channels and I watched a few episodes and cannot believe how basic the technology was in those days…. What astounds me about The Love Boat was how many good guest stars they got (not to mention those that later became famous).
