Major delays

How about that fog in Sydney yesterday, eh?

It covered the city basin and was so thick it caused ferry services to be delayed or cancelled, flights to be diverted and created hazardous conditions for motorists. Visibility was reduced to as little as 200 metres.

Did you see the crazy pics, like the one above from Nine?

I was dazzled by the white out when I woke up … and hungry due to my health kick.

Soooooo. Hungry. All. The. Time.

As part of my new regime, I decided to walk to work. According to Google it would take me one hour, so I set off just before 8am in the hope of reaching the city before 9am.

As I was wandering down the hill I saw a businessman striding purposefully in front of me. I decided to follow him, as he looked like he was city bound.

He knew all these nifty shortcuts down public stairs and laneways, so I got to see some delightful little back streets. There was even a cute one called Nook Lane!

Unfortunately, my purposefully striding businessman wasn’t going to the city and turned right into North Sydney.

Dammit.

Map reading is not my superpower, so I just meandered along in the hope of stumbling across a route onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Eventually I reached Kirribilli, where I grabbed a coffee and climbed the stairs to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

I got an awesome view of the fog across the harbour, which was so heavy that the Sydney Opera House was completely invisible.

It’s the dark shadow through the railing in the pic above.

Google was correct – it took exactly an hour for me to walk from home to my workplace, including following the wrong businessman and grabbing some caffeine.

I was a bit hot and sweaty when I arrived, but I reckon I’ll start doing it once a week instead of catching the bus.

My campaign to reduce my calorie consumption is much less palatable. My stomach is going to be grumbling for months as my sluggish 57-year-old metabolism struggles to shed my spare tires.

Blaaaaaah.

PS It wasn’t just the fog that was crazy yesterday, the waves were so epic they forced a seal onto the beach at Newport. The locals were very surprised! As was I when DD sent me a video of it emerging from the surf.

    1. I don’t have a bike, so that would be an investment. I’m quite happy with the walking at this stage – let’s see how long I last
