DD arrives home this morning after an arduous plane journey: Boston to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Tokyo, Tokyo to Sydney.
He texted me on Sunday night to let me know he was heading to the airport to commence the hell flight …
30 hours later …
I am not sure I have that sort of travel stamina in me any more. I barely had it when I was younger. I have enough trouble sleeping in my own bed, let alone on a plane.
Even flying back from Cairns last month felt like the longest trip ever and it was only four hours!
Speaking of travel, I made a tactical error in delightedly making plans to go away with the youngest over Easter. We booked a restaurant in our chosen destination, but when I went to find a hotel, there wasn’t one. Well, not for less than $400 a night – and they were a good hour and a half away from the restaurant.
NSW is VERY popular this weekend, which is good news for the tourism industry.
According to the NRMA, one in four Australians are planning on taking extra three days of leave between Easter Monday and ANZAC Day to have a ‘super break’ in April.
The Easter long weekend and ANZAC Day public holiday aligning allows a 10-day break, coinciding with the school holidays.
We were supposed to be heading to Byron Bay for Easter, I’d even booked a holiday apartment. But I got cold feet due to all the organiser shenanigans and lack of announcements. Crowded House were a drawcard, but I’d already brutalised my body watching them recently on the Sydney Opera House stairs. So I cancelled and got a refund.
I am also still in the red for my annual leave due to my last few breaks, so it’s probably a sensible move clip my wings and skip the traffic.
Are you heading off over Easter?
Song of the day: Crowded House “Silent house” (Such a beautiful song, such a tragic disease)
