I received an exciting call yesterday: our application for an apartment in Melbourne has been accepted.
The call came at 9.30am, which is VERY early for the eldest, but I decided to yell the good news through his bedroom door and wake him up.
It is getting very real now. The eldest is heading interstate to university in just over a week’s time.
We have a lease to sign and moving boxes to pack and decisions to be make on getting everything to Melbourne.
The eldest went out to celebrate last night.
I felt slightly rattled by the day’s events. I am glad we’ve found somewhere, but sad that another child is leaving home.
I am also dazzled by how much cheaper real estate is in Melbourne. Rent is far more reasonable and so are property prices.
While we were only looking to rent, I couldn’t help stickybeaking on Donain at flats to buy.

The place above in Footscray has a price guide of $450-$495,000, which might buy you a garage in Sydney.
Isn’t the building gorgeous? It’s a former Olympic Tyres headquarters. If I had the cash for an investment property I’d snap it up!

The youngest came over for dinner last night, so I made an awesome new Recipe Tin Eats creation: Crunchy Chicken Tacos.
Deadset delicious. I couldn’t help myself and ate one too many.
We watched tellie together afterwards, then I hugged the youngest goodbye and she headed back to her dad’s place because she doesn’t like sleeping in the spare room (the bedroom I occupied when she lived with me).
Then it was just me and the dogs rattling around the apartment, a prelude of what’s to come.
I cheered myself up by booking seats at a Ponant information night about Tahiti. Not that I have any annual leave available until the 2030s.
While lots of good stuff happened yesterday, I was a bit down by the end of the night.
It’s a bittersweet time.
