That was too close

I had a brush with death yesterday. It scared me so much that I was still shaking 30 minutes after it happened.

I was crossing the suburban street behind my apartment block when a driver became frustrated with how slowly the car in front of him was going. He swerved out onto the wrong side of the road, put his foot flat to the floor, I ran in terror and missed me by centimetres.

He didn’t slow down when he saw me, just continued hurtling down the street.

It was terrifying.

It was also completely pointless in terms of cutting down on his driving time, as there was roadwork in the next block that brought him to a standstill seconds later. Stupid man.

Speaking of stupid, did you hear that Pink was denied entry into Manly Skiff Club? She had a reservation for dinner but didn’t bring any identification, so they turned away her party of eight people at the door.

Are they insane?

Admittedly, the Registered Clubs Act 1976 requires visitors of Clubs to provide an ID proving their address to gain temporary membership, but come on! Couldn’t they have welcomed her in while someone got her ID?

Matt Hazell, Secretary Manager of Manly Skiff Club, said in a statement that the Club “deeply regrets any inconvenience caused to Pink, her family and friends during her recent visit to the Club”.

“We sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding surrounding the ID requirement and will be using the incident to improve our processes in the future,” it read.

I bet they deeply regret it. Imagine the positive publicity a happy visit by Pink would have brought the venue. Chatswood Concourse has received loads of positive press after the singer was in the audience for PACA Sydney’s final performance of In The Heights at the venue.

Pink even paid for her own tickets, attending with hubby Carey Hart and their two children, Willow and Jameson. Choreographer and event co-ordinator Janina Hamerlok said: “She complimented several of our leads individually and said she thought the production paid tremendous homage to the actual Latino community on who the musical is based. She was one of the first in the auditorium to give a standing ovation at the conclusion of the performance – it was a never to be forgotten moment for most of the cast and indeed myself who has always been a lifelong die-hard fan.”

That’s the way you do it!

As for my cruise information evening with Aurora Expeditions, it was bulk fun. Free glasses of bubbles, arancini balls and amazing videos of wildlife and icebergs … we loved it.

An expedition leader also took to the stage to share stories of some of his exploits at sea, which was fascinating too. He’s convinced me a trip to Antarctica should be on my bucket list.

One problem: the eye-wateringly expensive cabin prices …

Song of the day: Pink “Raise your glass”

  1. there was that story years ago, I think it was after the Grammy Awards….Paul McCartney was refused entry to a party because those at the door had never heard of the former mop top….
