Agility

My office held its annual Awards for Excellence yesterday.

I was shortlisted for the Agility Award.

I lost to someone far more agile than me.

She does the ticketing, which is a bitch of a job.

Although it did feel like I was performing an inward 4 1/2 somersault in tuck position when I was trying to herd all the winners into a photo opportunity with the CEO.

Not exactly my job, but I knew I’d be dealing with the consequences if we didn’t have decent shots for the CEO’s LinkedIn account and the weekly newsletter.

And then I raced home to attend my first body corporate annual general meeting, which went for 90 minutes and sapped my will to live.

I hate meetings, especially ones involving financial statements and endless resolutions.

Because I don’t have enough to do already, I agreed to join the committee. DD wanted to know if I let loose on my issues with building maintenance, but I’ve decided to go softly softly and make friends with everyone before alienating them.

Although accidentally complaining about the treasurer hogging one of the visitor parking spaces possibly wasn’t the most endearing first move on my part.

And people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones – at one point during the meeting, which was held in the basement carpark right at the opposite end to my apartment (which is three floors up), I could hear my dogs howling.

Sigh.

I raced upstairs the minute the meeting ended. The dogs know the sound of my footsteps and started howling all over again.

I took them up and down the stairs for a wee, took myself and my shopping trolley back down the stairs to Woolies to restock the fridge and buy myself a roast chicken and packet salad for dinner, then hauled the stuff back up the stairs and ate a desultory dinner for one (as both kids were out) while the dogs stared imploringly at me for scraps.

I was feeling very tired and over adult responsibilities at that point.

Please let 2023 be over soon. I am done with it. I need a holiday … STAT.

Fortunately, a ticket has just arrived for one … stay tuned …
