It’s party time

I helped throw a party last night. Well, it wasn’t exactly a party, but there was lots of champagne and a band and everything.

It was the 2019 Australian Drinks Awards and I was there as the communications manager.

Unfortunately that meant I was working and had to leave early to get all the comms ready for first thing this morning. One electronic newsletter for retailers was published at 6.30am, with another to suppliers at 8am.

That’s 15 stories all up.

Busy, busy, busy.

As the official photos aren’t ready yet, I had to rely on happy snaps from my phone. I will swap them out later in the day when my Dropbox link arrives from the event organisers.

The awards were held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, and celebrated the achievements of the Australian drinks industry.

Adam Spencer was the very funny host and trophies were handed out to the most popular brands, best suppliers and companies who’ve excelled at corporate social responsibility, diversity & inclusion and gender equity.

If you’re gagging to know who won, here’s the link.

An Awards night for drinks sounds delicious and there was a very exciting selection on offer, but I was so frantic I only managed half an Aperol Spritz, a glass of Jansz and two sips of an espresso martini.

It was my fourth Australian Drinks Awards, which makes me feel like quite the veteran. It’s such a different world for me these days – my head is filled with liquor data and faces rather than saucy celebrity stuff.

Just to make my Thursday particularly hairy, Coca-Cola Amatil and Coles Liquor released their HY19 and FY19 results. As I am a very serious drinks business journalist these days, I frantically combed the results for juicy details in addition to getting all my awards stories prepped.

To make things even more interesting, Asahi acquired a Brisbane craft brewery after spending $16billion on CUB last month.

It was a Nurofen filled day.

I arrived at Doltone House at 5pm in my Leona Edmiston frock and vintage coat. I’d like to say I looked tres chic, but I could have been mistaken for being up the duff as it was very booby and high waisted,  and my belly is rather round.

That’s what I get for trying my dress on three hours before the event.

Anyways, it was a very glamorous affair. But I’m beyond knackered because I didn’t finish getting everything sorted until 1am.

Yawn … Here are some snaps (none of me though, I’ll add one later today when the official pics land):

Here it is!

The first one is some of the gang from my work …

ada-19-2-CollageHave an awesome weekend. I can’t wait to plunge into the sea again!

But I’d better get some sleep first.

Song of the day: Prince “1999” (Tonight we’re gonna party like)

I hear that song and I’m back at the Crazy Horse Nightclub on December 31, 1999, dancing like a loon and feeling sooooo giddy about the new millennium dawning.
