Ah, the Golden Globes, they always deliver in a way the staid Oscars never can.
I’m pretty sure all the Moet served has something to do with it … this year mini bottles were served with funnels to hasten the flow …
Highlights at the 2017 awards included …
>> Host Jimmy Fallon’s opening musical number featuring Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Kit Harrington, Justin Timberlake, the cast of Stranger Things and a bevy of other A-listers spoofing La La Land’s the award-winning film’s opening scene.
>> Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds kissing before Gosling made his way to the stage to accept his Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for La La Land.
>> Meryl Streep taking aim at Donald Trump for mocking disabled New York Times investigative reporter Serge F. Kovaleski, who suffers from a congenital joint condition, during a campaign rally last year. “There was one performance this year that stunned me,” Streep announced. “It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.” She urged her peers to “protect journalists, because we’re going to need them going forward. And they’ll need us to safeguard the truth.” (Donald responded on Twitter by calling Meryl “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood” – he’s such a charmer.)
>> Brad Pitt being greeted with a loud round of applause when he made a surprise appearance on stage. A Team Brad crowd?
>> Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn hilariously presenting the award for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical with Hawn saying: “In our new movie, Amy and I play mother and daughter” and Schumer interjecting with “I play the daughter. Although I read for both parts” and Hawn messing up her lines, saying “Best Motion Picture Comedy or Mystical” and Schumer correcting her, then Hawn saying “The nominations of the five most tainted men” and Schumer saying “It’s talented. Kurt, do you have her glasses?”
