I’m handing the kids over to my ex at 5pm today for the school holidays.
He got his weeks mixed up – he thought he was going away the first week, but it was actually the second week.
Ah, the perils of middle-aged dating and co-ordinating two co-parenting calendars.
By the time he realised his error, it was too late – I’d made plans for the first week. But I graciously agreed to him having them for the whole school hols.
Aren’t I a honey?
Actually, I quite love having lazy fun with the kids in the school holidays, so I’m not entirely kicking up my heels to be without them.
On the other hand, it’s been a looooooong time between kid-free getaways. I think it was my 40th – in Hawaii – seven years ago.
I don’t have anything quite that fancy planned next week.
I’m just flying down to Melbourne for a few days to see my sister-in-law and my dear former colleague Lorrae. Then it’s off to my childhood stomping ground for a few nights R&R after that.
And I’m … deep breath … blog detoxing while I’m gone.
Yep, I’m going a whole week without tapping a word at HouseGoesHome.
I’d initially planned a total digital detox, but I’m really rather fond of Facebook, so I figure I’ll just not blog for seven days.
I think that’s punishment … I mean relaxation … enough for my over-active brain.
Lordy, I wonder how I’ll cope? It will feel strange to not rattle something off every single morning. But it will be liberating too.
I’ve been feeling a little strained in the writing stakes. I need a breather.
I think being blog-free might help me sleep better too. The sleeping is waaaaay better than it was a few months ago, but there’s something about setting myself a deadline of 7am for posting my blog every day that makes my eyes automatically pop open between 5 and 6am.
And it’s virtually impossible to go back to sleep because I start to fret about what I’m going to write.
Without that self-imposed pressure, I’m hoping I’ll learn to doze again. Dozing under warm doonas is quite lovely in winter.
I can’t wait! Even if it is going to be FREAKING COLD in Melbourne.
I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed for fireplaces.
Catch you next weekend!

The Internet will miss you Alana. Melbourne will be freezing! Pack those woollies and have a great time x
Love the photo! 😅
You deserve a break, try to enjoy it! But, that being said, we will be suffering withdrawal along with you, I’m sure!
Omg I will miss your blog. Relax & have fun!
Who is going to amuse me? I really enjoy your writing. Melbourne is always fun. Enjoy and relax.
