People are funny. But you already knew that … And they get particularly funny – or should that be odd – around Christmas.
New research from Hotels.com has revealed 55% of Aussies would happily give one of their family members a chance to star in their own Home Alone movie, by leaving them behind this festive season.
The annual Hotels.com Christmas Travel Tracker has found over a third (36%) of Aussies would be happy to snub family this silly season within favour of their pets (13%). According to the Hotels.com Christmas Travel Tracker, it’s mother-in-laws who are on the Christmas chopping block, with almost one in 10 Aussies(8%) happy to bump them off the Christmas party invite list compared to only 1% looking to leave father-in-laws behind.
Whereas I woke up this morning in a gorgeous house my in-laws have rented on the NSW South Coast, surrounded by aunts and uncles and cousins and laughter galore … despite having separated from the family’s eldest son in February.
It’s quite lovely really, as long as I don’t think about it too much.
But back to the Hotels.com survey … Luckily, almost 45% of Australians agreed they wouldn’t look to leave any of their family members behind this Christmas – not even that annoying second cousin, Garry.
When it comes to travelling in the silly season, over one in 10 Aussies (11%), are channelling their inner-Scrooge and are going away for Christmas to avoid the festive fuss and bickering families; 15% want to experience Christmas elsewhere, 14% just want to try something new, but nearly one in two (48%) say they’re travelling to spend quality time with family.
