House leaves home (again)

9to5

After six months of stay-at-home motherhood and a separation, House is leaving home again for the workplace. I signed a new employment contract yesterday.

I’ll also be leaving my actual home (forever) in 5 weeks. We’re scheduled to settle the sale of the house on August 1 and I have no idea where I’ll go after that.

Rental prices around my neck of the woods are astronomical. It would be cheaper for me to get a massive mortgage … if there was anything to buy …

But back to the job. I’ll keep the details sketchy for now (ah, the suspense!) but it’s a three-day-a-week gig in the city. At this stage I’m working Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I’m pretty excited about getting back into a workplace. Hanging out at home has been fun, but being a single mum can be a bit lonely. Selling the house kept me busy for a while, mothering the two kids keeps me on my toes, but there’s been a little too much thumb twiddling for my liking.

I’m mad keen to have co-workers again. Not to mention the buzz of getting stuck into a new challenge.

I’ve also decided to give Husband the kids overnight on Wednesdays so I can go out after work. Currently I’ve been restricted to child-free Sunday and Monday nights … not the most social of days.

A bonus side benefit of the new custody arrangement is I’ll only suffer the torture of getting them ready for school two days a week. Score!

But I will miss their gorgeous little faces in the morning.

I’ll give you all the juicy details on the job next week. But wish me luck in the meantime.
