Jump back!

I’m stepping back in time … to Sunday. It’s been so frantic that I haven’t had a chance to do it justice until now.

Waving my munchkins off at 9am wasn’t bulk fun. The realisation we’d never do the road trip to the in-laws as a family again was a bit confronting.

And it sucked being sent a photo of the kids lunching without me at the Paragon Cafe in Goulburn, with Husband ordering our old favourite dish – prawns saganaki.

Paragon Cafe's photo.
But I kept my mind off things by walking the dog twice, inviting a school mum over for a cuppa, having two dear former workmates over for a slow-roasted lamb lunch, and another group of school mums over for a Footloose viewing.
The Footloose viewing was prompted by Kevin Bacon recreating his famous scenes from the movie on The Tonight Show …
Phwoar.
Fortunately, unlike waving the munchkins off, the Footloose viewing WAS bulk fun. I told everyone to bring along ’80s food. We munched on celery sticks filled with cream cheese and walnuts, French onion dip, cheese cubes and cabanossi and shared a Vienetta for dessert.

I also made salmon mornay vol au vents. I love that Woolies still sells vol au vent cases and that there’s obviously still a high enough demand to keep them stocked on the shelves.
I can’t say they were die-die must-try … I remember vol au vents being a little flakier.
From the moment that infamous shoe-filled intro to Footloose came onto the screen we were all laughing and bopping along.
Being mums now, we were a little concerned about how dangerous Ariel’s actions were in this scene (“Young people just have no idea about their own mortality, tsk, tsk.”) …

And we mourned the passing of the actor who played Willard, Chris Penn …
But we were all still like giddy schoolgirls when it was time for the shower scene …
And the ending always puts the most massive smile on my face …
I wonder if I can entice everyone back over for St Elmo’s Fire?
Friends will get me through this. God bless them.
What’s your favourite ’80s movie?

  1. “The Outsiders” is my old time 80’s favourite. But if I had a marathon I would include “About Last Night”, “St Elmos Fire” and “Pretty in Pink”. I’m no sad I threw out all my Dolly magazines from the 80’s only a few years ago…otherwise I would read these at the same time. Oh the 80’s…bliss.

  2. Sounds like a great night. God bless friends… and 80s movies. I love Kevin Bacon dancing in glitter. My favourite 80s movies would have to be Pretty in Pink,The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future and Fast Times at Ridgemont High just for Sean Penn value. I also have a soft spot for anything with John Cusack in it, particularly The Sure Thing. In recent years, I really enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine, which references a lot of 80s movies and stars a middle-aged John Cusack! I remember when I was 12 I found a box of Dolly magazines in the street that someone was throwing out – I thought all my Christmases had come at once!
