Welcome to post 1001 from HouseGoesHome (then goes back to work)! I should have been celebrating with the last one, but my 1000th post was a gossip blather. Didn’t seem quite right.
1001 posts – can you believe it? Probably, going on the clutter I’ve created in your inbox, Facebook feed etc.
Ah well- woo! Yeah! She’s a jolly good fellow and all that …
On with the blog:
Sprog 1 lost two teeth while we were gallivanting around South Carolina. Sprog 2 lost one. The Tooth Fairy came to Sprog 2 and delivered $4 – damn her generosity. I thought the going rate was $2, that raises the bar. Sprog 1 is still waiting for her largesse. She hasn’t made a fuss, so I was beginning to wonder if belief had been suspended in my absence. But Husband tells me she made a forlorn enquiry while I was out to dinner last night about where her winged benefactor had disappeared to. I’ve decided this letter I saw on buzzfeed.com offers the perfect explanation. It’s genius, in fact. The state of my eldest daughter’s bedroom shites me up the wall. Especially since it’s the first room visitors – and I – see when we walk in the house. She’s been making noises about pocket money. I say pffft to that. Pocket money would require an interest in completing chores. Never. Going. To. Happen.
How much does The Tooth Fairy leave for your kids?

That’s great. I tripped over a Nerf gun outside my son’s door. So annoying!
The number of stubbed toes I have from kiddie junk …
Congrats on the 1001 posts!!
I overheard a very funny (sad for my daughter) conversation in the back of the car. Friend was telling her that maybe she didn’t believe in the tooth fairy properly because she receive $5 and my daughter only got $1!
So the going rate went up to $2.
Eldest cornered me in the kitchen about 6mths ago and demanded ‘the truth’ and wasn’t going to accept anything else. So no more tooth fairy for her.
I did hear a good rule. That the tooth fairy only comes for the first 8 (or 12 teeth depending on how fast they come) but definitely not for Molars! So by the time they are 9/10 yo you have an excuse to stop. I’m sure I will apply this rule to my No 3 child by the time he gets there!!
I think $2 is more than generous. Kids are so competitive these days!
