Loser

pinkladies

It’s weekly wrap-up time … and I thought I’d work my way backwards from last night, which I spent with a giant “L” on my forehead.

It made its first appearance when I walked into my local Strike Bowling Alley for a friend’s 40th and realised that everyone was dressed like they were on the set of Grease … except me.

I’d neglected to look at my invitation to the party. If I had, I would have known about the Grease theme. Epic fail, as I was channelling Maggie Taberrer in my tent top and big jewellery rather than Pinky Tuscadero like all my gorgeous mates.

And then I started bowling. I haven’t bowled since I was 12. And it turns out theres a good reason for that because I am REALLY BAD at it. If you are any way familiar with bowling you will realise that my final score of 18 is not very good.

“Not very good” being an extreme understatement.

Everyone took turns giving me advice on how to not bowl the ball into the gutter … without success.

And things got even better when everyone at the party finished playing before me and got to watch and cheer when I finally bowled a single pin over.

Loser.

Fortunately my fellow partygoers – who I’ve met in the school playground – are among the nicest, kindest people I’ve ever met so I had a fabulous time regardless.

Then this morning I dragged my sorry, hungover arse out of bed and walked 45 minutes to retrieve my car from a backstreet near the bowling alley and the “L” appeared on my forehead all over again.

As for the rest of last week …

I recalled the joy of cocktails and my toes being crushed by mobility scooters on a cruise last year. Read more here.

I realised my negative internal dialogue needed a makeover. Read more here.

I had a panic attack about being a working mum again. Geez it’s bloody hard. Read more here.

And I wrote about surviving the Easter Show here.  Lots of fun pics to see.

Over at ivillage, some of my favourite stuff was …

This crazy April Fool’s prank that resulted in police being called to investigate a murder. See the video here.

Speaking of amazing videos, this one of a mum convincing Michael Buble to do something wonderful for her teen son has gone viral. See it here.

Any support or submissions you could give to iblog Friday would be SO appreciated. I’m trying really hard to give something back to Aussie writers with the concept. Read about it here.

I was so impressed by the way Magic Johnson supported his gay son coming out. Read about it here.

I loved it when Jon Hamm came out of the closet. Well, technically he went in it. Read the raunchy details here.

And Mariah Carey made my Easter complete with this picture … plus there was lots of other fun goss. Read it here.

  1. Could not love Magic Johnson more. When high profile people, particularly athletes, speak out in support of homosexuality, it just warms my heart.

I hope you have stopped cleaning for the cleaner to avoid some mum guilt – however you’re fab, and I have no doubt the little House mouses are doing just fine even though you are working full time again. As long as they are loved, kids thrive. I like to think I’m proof of that, after being raised by a single mum who worked and did the very best she could.

Also, I’ve been super slack not submitting to your blog project yet (which I loved reading this morning from the past week). Please, pretty please follow me at popgoeslaw.wordpress.com and I will be emailing you some of my posts from last week to profile if you like 🙂

Hope you are having a good weekend!
