So, I was wandering in my favourite place – the toy aisle – when I saw the “Australia” Barbie doll and snorted my Diet Coke all over the floor. I think it’s a cack that Mattel portrays Aussie women as Terry Irwin lookalikes with koalas wrapped around their wrists. Do you know anyone other than Terri (besides Bindi) who wanders around dressed like this? I tried to imagine how I’d make Australia Barbie look. But I was a bit stumped. How would I differentiate her from American Barbie? I used to love the way CLEO magazine portrayed the Aussie girl – smiling and splashing about in an Aussie-flag bikini. Maybe I could update that with boardies and a surfboard under her arm? Cliched, but not as daft as safari gear. How would you accessorise Australia Barbie?
