I am struggling with the deprivation that is required by dieting.
I know I need to bite the bullet and do it, but dieting is very, very dull.
And it’s a long-term project, not an overnight fix.
My sister stayed over last night and brought lamb koftas from Dales Downtown Meats in Uralla.
(Uralla has become one of her favourite weekend getaway destinations, she’s been there three times this year already.)
Dale really knows his way around a kebab, they were delicious.
I served them with hummus and roasted veggies drizzled with the oil from a Meredith Goat’s Cheese jar.
I can’t say the meal was low fat, but I relished every mouthful.
It would have been sensible to stop at one kofta, but my sister and I couldn’t resist splitting a third.
I really need to find the self-.restraint to turn away from the second skewer and get serious about losing weight.
I need to shed about 15 kilos, but would settle for 5kg at this point.
What am I talking about? I’m not settling for anything, I’m still eating as normal.
My doctor is on my case about it. I am edging towards pre-diabetes. I look like a Womble.
I have a snorkelling trip coming up later this year and I am too embarrassed to wear my whale shark onesie because I’m edging towards looking like an actual one.
A good first step would be to (finally) sign up for the bloody gym. I talk and talk about it, but never actually do it.
I am so cranky with myself. But not cranky enough to put my foot down and stop scoffing.
Blaaaah.
Get your act together, Alana!

PS If you’re wondering where Uralla is, it’s in the New England High Country near Armidale.
Visit NSW describes it as “a postcard-perfect town where unexpected delights await – think artisanal goat’s cheese and hidden speakeasies. When you’re not indulging, try your hand at fossicking and explore historic architectural trails”.
Ooooh nice, I might need to put it on my list!
