Life be in it

I went to the launch of a new bar on Oxford Street last night called Dr Goode’s.

Bulk fun.

Cabs are expensive and I’ve spent far too much this week on shopping my feelings, so I decided to walk to the city and catch a bus home.

As I passed Parliament House I recalled dodging a right-to-life rally on Tuesday – addressed by Barnaby bloody Joyce – on my way to the Sommelier’s Wine List Awards.

Right to lifers raise my ire. They are a disappointing reminder that humanity is obsessed with protecting life in the womb and at its bitter end … but not during the middle bit.

There is so much hate and cruelty and poverty and neglect during that part.

This week was a bit up and down for me, dealing with the trauma of my dad being forced to die over nine long days from lack of fluids rather than a humane injection.

How about we introduce a bill to parliament on that instead of obsessing over wombs?

Anyways … back to Dr Goode’s … I went with my friend Sue and the place was going off. Cocktails, pizza, fabulous 80s-90s soundtrack, insanely good fries … we had a blast.

Here are some happy snaps …

The shot of the night goes to Sue, what a cracker …

As we huddled in a quieter corner of the very happening event, we noted that our 50s were way more challenging than we expected them to be.

And we urged each other to do more of the fun stuff. Sip that cocktail. Book that holiday. Grab that long weekend with both hands.

I’m planning on filling mine with walks, a peaty whisky tasting, a possible Vivid Sydney work shift and lunch with the youngest.

Have a good one and I’ll catch you next week.

Song of the day: Ph.d “I won’t let you down”
