Strange things

I was driving back to the real world on Sunday night when the strangest thing happened.

The cars ahead of me on the Wakehurst Parkway came to a sudden halt and I could see people standing in the middle of the road.

Two boys in their late teens sat on a guardrail, one of them making a call on his mobile phone.

The vehicle ahead of me – I don’t know whether it was by chance or design – had ambulance livery on it.

But the ambulance driver stayed at the wheel in the line of stalled traffic.

Then a man walked past my car. His face was covered in blood. I stared at him wondering what to do, he stared at me briefly and kept walking.

I anxiously watched him in my rear vision mirror, walking along the edge of the busy road, then wandering across it.

When I looked back the traffic was moving again and the ambulance vehicle had pulled over onto the verge.

I figured that since there was an ambulance in attendance, I should keep driving.

Another ambulance raced past to the scene, followed by a police car with its siren blaring.

I have no idea what happened. It was very strange.

I tried searching for the incident online, but couldn’t find anything. Unfortunately, Googling “Wakehurst incident” reintroduced me to the fact Wakehurst Parkway has been described as “Australia’s most haunted road”.

I could have done without being reminded about that.

It’s also notorious for terrible car accidents and flooding and is finally being upgraded by Transport for NSW in the coming years.

I hope everyone involved in the incident on Sunday night is OK.

In other strange occurances, Charlie the Moodle’s trachea appeared to collapse (again) on Saturday.

He spent the morning coughing and honking like a goose, so I made yet another vet appointment for him.

The receptionist said I could cancel up until 2.30pm if he improved. At 2.30pm he was still violently honking, so I kept the 3pm appointment.

From the moment I strapped him into the car not another cough or honk was heard.

And I am $183 poorer due to paying the umpteenth vet bill for my fluffy money pit.

In happier news, DD and I took the folding chairs to Avalon headland on Sunday morning for coffee by the sea (bit unseasonably brisk though), then went to a lovely Champagne and oysters soiree.

Plus DD cooked me two delicious dinners while I stayed with him over the weekend.

I was so lazy, I didn’t even help pack the dishwasher afterwards. Sorry DD.

Oh, and DD gave me a CD player for Christmas! Yes, yes, I know, very retro, but that’s how I roll with music.

I gave my previous CD player to my dad so he could listen to jazz in the nursing home. It’s been very silent at my place since then – aside from the dogs barking – so it’s wonderful to have songs drifting through the rooms again.

PS: All those memes about the weirdness about the period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve are so spot on.

I am finding it very difficult to keep track of time. I think it’s Tuesday.

PPS: Today involves a long drive and a green unicorn. I will explain later.

If I don’t get a chance to blog tomorrow, have a great New Year’s Eve (I will be in bed long before midnight) and I’ll see you in 2026.

Song of the day: Icehouse “Baby you’re so strange”
