I have a housemate!

The eldest came home last night for an extended summer holiday in Sydney.

I am so excited to have someone to look after!

(I wasn’t excited about the 11pm pick up from the airport or getting to bed at midnight or not being able to sleep.)

Living alone has made me realise that having someone to nurture gives my days more purpose.

I like making sure the fridge is filled with their favourite things, cooking them dinner … that sort of stuff.

It makes me feel needed.

The fridge and pantry have been pretty bare since the eldest left. Now they’re full of eggs and ham and cheese and prawn dumplings and oatmilk and jammy dodgers.

Having the eldest around also means I can go to my work Christmas party straight from the office today.

Living alone in an apartment with two dogs requires social juggling: working from home during the day if I need to be in the city at night.

But the eldest can take the doggos for an afternoon wee. Woo hoo!

Ah, it’s the little things.

On the downside, I don’t like the mess that housemates make, so it will be interesting to see how I cope on that front. (Main pic is what the kids’ playroom once looked like – terrifying.)

But mainly I am excited that there will be another living creature in the house that can talk, isn’t furry and can clean their own teeth.

Yawn. OK, time to stumble through the day on four hours sleep.

Song of the day: John Sebastian “Welcome back”

  1. there’s one reason I love reading your blog (well more than one reason) I seem to read it whenever I think about getting a dog….you and a friend that spent thousands on a cat that was once his mom’s….and then the cat passed away anyway….so, I love friends pets…it’s less expensive
