Fake news

I meet a lot of influencers during my after hours life as a booze news side hustler.

While their TikTok and Instagram feeds make it look like they’re having heaps of fun at events, it doesn’t seem like they actually are when I see them in action.

They don’t have time to relax and enjoy themselves because they’re too busy orchestrating perfectly staged photos and videos.

The pretense went next level for me yesterday when I discovered there are fake influencers who are completely AI generated.

And I have so many questions.

The world that real-life influencers parade on social media is already a concoction. The one AI influencers are showcasing doesn’t exist at all.

For example, people have their tennis knickers in a knot over an AI-generated influencer called Mia Zelu who faked going to Wimbledon.

Why? Was it ad placement?

The gallery of images of the impossibly beautiful Mia included a close up of a bottle of Pimms, but maybe that was just to add a little English atmosphere.

The online influencer’s first post dates back to March 15 and Mia now has 163,000 followers.

But why has she been created and what will she do with her rapidly growing influence?

Her latest post was a cryptic one: “When a concept doesn’t fit the usual narrative, it’s easy to misread the intention. The real story tends to unfold over time.”

Watch this space.

And in news that sounds fake but is actually real, a whale was spotted in Circular Quay yesterday!

Ferries halted operations momentarily while NSW maritime crews sailed alongside the whale to escort it back out to sea.

How cool! Trust me to be working from home instead of at The Rocks with a prime view of the action.

  1. Great post – very interesting. I wonder why Mia was created. The picture does look fake when you look at it – both her and her chair are huge compared to surrounding chairs and people.
