How was your weekend? Mine involved lots of food, bluebottles and faffing.
The feasting kicked off with pizza with the youngest while we watched the first two episodes of ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’.
The new six-part series on Netflix tells the true story – well, slightly fictionalised – of a young Australian influencer called Belle Gibson who tricked the world into believing she’d cured her terminal brain cancer through diet and alternative therapies.
What a disturbing piece of television that was … though it didn’t hold a candle to that horrifying Oval Office press conference.
On Saturday morning DD was building a garden bed with his neighbour Gav, who got a call to say his friends needed to cancel their dinner plans due to a health emergency.
Gav had a table for four booked at a local French place called Bistro Boulevard, so he asked DD if we’d like to join him and his wife instead.
Sure!
I drove up around mid-afternoon, hoping for a dip in the surf beforehand. But it wasn’t to be – I’ve never seen so many bluebottles in my life.
(We later discovered, Gav had been stung by one a few hours before dinner, he did not look happy about it.)
I have been terrified of bluebottles ever since the youngest was stung by one at Freshwater as a four year old and screamed non-stop for literally three hours.
DD braved the waves for a few minutes then we did a bit of wading in the ocean pool to soothe my sore back.
I was a bit blue about the bluebottles because I needed some soothing. Life has been pretty overwhelming lately.
Stop the world, I need to get off!

At Bistro Boulevard, DD ordered the scallops to start, then we both had steak with frites for main, plus a bottle of organic Barossa red. Tres bien!
The next morning we were so busy getting DD’s place ready for his cousins’ arrival later this month that all we ate was a very late breakfast of takeaway ham and cheese bagels from one of our favourite cafes.
The rest of the day passed in a blur of painting and cleaning and chucking stuff away.
I was in charge of stuff that didn’t involve anything heavy or too much bending.
We made another attempt at a swim, but the bluebottles were still out in full force, so we made do with a bit more wading in the ocean pool.
Then I popped down to Avalon to grab our favourite Mongolian combination from the Han Court while DD put a second coat of paint on the spare bedroom wall.
After dinner and the news – what a depressing watch that was – I packed up the dogs and headed home.
I have a busy week ahead, so I might be a bit sporadic in my posting. I don’t think I’ll have any time for writing over the next two days, bloody frantic.
Catch you later in the week.
Song of the day: New Order “Blue Monday”
did everyone see that press conference, I’m a Ukranian Canadian, and have to say am terrified. but maybe everyone seeing that is a good thing.
