Best intentions

The plan on Monday night was to head to bed early and catch up on sleep after a big weekend.

I struggled wearily through to 9pm and was just about to take the dogs out for their last wee of the day when a strange and sudden urge to Christmas decorate came over me.

I hung up “fa-la-la” santa bunting, punted the TV that never gets switched on into the spare room and moved the LED ALDI Christmas tree on the TV console in preparation for arranging Christmas presents under it out of reach of random dog leg cocking.

I put Santa hat covers on the dining chairs and matched them with a red tablecloth.

Everything looked very festive, so I made the fatal mistake of opening a box of solar-powered Christmas star lights from Kmart.

They were a bargain that I picked up for $18 – alongside the $3 Santa hat chair covers – and I decided to wrap them around the balcony balustrade.

I undid the tiger tail thingy that was holding them together and they unravelled into a knotty bundle that I spent the next frigging two hours trying to untangle before giving up and draping them still tangled on the balcony.

I was wrecked when I woke up yesterday morning and struggled off to work, which was a crazy day spent writing a media release and participating in a team building session making gingerbread houses and eating pizza, followed by a pink drink with two former contractors at the pub next door to my office.

I got home last night to discover the solar-powered stars had not lit up, which added insult to injury.

Speaking of injury, I invested in a thumb splint on my way home from the pub … sexy …

Anyways, let this blog post be a warning to you: Kmart LED star lights are not the best investment in your time or money.
