Quiet quitting

You’ve probably heard the term ‘quiet quitting’, where employees gradually disengage from their work without explicitly resigning.

It usually involves putting in the bare minimum effort to keep your job, but not devoting any extra time or energy to your role.

I would be terrible at quiet quitting my job because my responsible gene is very dominant. The mere thought of disappointing people by doing the bare minimum panics me.

But I quiet quit my social life from Thursday to Sunday and it felt great.

After work on Thursday and Friday I simply cooked dinner and stayed in. I re-emerged briefly on Saturday for a quick lunch with a former colleague, then I packed my bags and headed to DD’s place.

DD was wiped out after back-to-back overseas holiday and work trips so we didn’t make any plans, just meandered wherever the mood took us.

First we went down the street to watch a band outside a local bar, then we had a cocktail at the new Lovat restaurant at Avalon Surf Club, which has the most awesome view.

We loved it so much we booked a table for dinner in a few weeks time.

Then we grabbed a takeaway Lamborghini pizza – lamb and eggplant – from one of the hottest places in town, Pocket.

It was bloody delicious and I am eager to return to eat in soon.

The next morning we popped to the coffee van on Avalon headland for strong flat whites, then headed to Relish for an early morning brekkie wrap.

The rest of the day was spent reading the Sunday papers, snoozing and fantasising about retiring.

Then I packed my bags and returned to the real world feeling very chilled out.

I need a few more weekends like that in my life … but I won’t be getting one for a while because our calendar for November and early December is MAD.

I hope you had a good, chilled out weekend too.

I have a few more quiet nights ahead before I throw myself back into the fray. What WILL I blog about without my usual social whirl?

Song of the day: Bjork “It’s so quiet”
