HouseGoesHome celebrated its 14th anniversary a few months ago. Wow, that’s a lot of blog posts … and most of them filled with fluff and blather.
The blog has become a repository of my exploits and thoughts over the years. It’s an open-to-the-world, online diary where I scribble entries each week.
Those musings come in handy when I struggle to recall details from events, holidays or crises.
And then there are the days when nothing much happens at all. Like yesterday when the highlights were the dogs getting groomed at Sugar Paws and buying the eldest’s 21st birthday present online.
Readership of the blog has been up and down lately. I am tempted to blame the Facebook algorithm, but it could also be that people are weary of my wittering.
A bloke called Steven from Flippa emailed this week to say he had buyers for HouseGoesHome.com.
I didn’t take the email seriously because he said: “I valued a business today that operates in a similar space as yours and wanted to let you know I have buyers for housegoeshome.com. I would love to talk to you in person about it.”
“If you want to know what housegoeshome.com is worth in the meantime use our valuation chatbot (takes 5 mins)
“Our valuation algorithm uses transaction data from over 13 years in business as the worlds largest M&A marketplace. Reply to this email to talk arrange a time to talk.”
I didn’t reply to Steven as he obviously hadn’t looked at HouseGoesHome before sending out his email. The blog isn’t a business. It’s a labour of love and its only value is personal.
My inbox is bombarded daily by people wanting to improve the SEO, redesign my website or pursue content partnerships, mainly so they can add links to online gambling sites, I think.
I ignore them all.
I simply enjoy writing and taking photos and sharing them online.
Growing traffic isn’t a priority, though I do enjoy it when I know I’ve struck a chord with a post.
Who knows what the future holds? Maybe I’ll hang in there and become Australia’s longest running and most prolific blogger? I don’t think there’s much competition these days, all the old gang have moved on.
Anyways have a great weekend and I will catch you next week.
