That was the moment

I’ve been gradually gaining weight over the past few years, which has accelerated lately due to having tendonitis.

The orthopedic surgeon told me to give up the gym, stop climbing stairs and avoid doing anything that might put a strain on my frayed tendons.

He also suggested I attend physio-cise classes, which I have so far failed to do …

Between the weight gain and collagen depletion, I have not been a fan of myself in photos and tend to avoid mirrors whenever possible.

I was managing pretty well with that until I got to Kanazawa in Japan. I went to have a shower in the hotel bathroom and discovered THIS nightmare …

Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey! Who thought putting a mirror under the shower head was a good idea?

Also note the location of the taps in the bottom left-hand corner of the shower recess. Then imagine me scrabbling around naked on my knees trying to work out how the hell to adjust the water temperature.

Well, maybe don’t imagine too hard.

Anyways, I finally sorted out the taps and turned around to shield myself from the horror of the mirror, only to discover …

A mirror in the opposite direction as well!

There was no escaping the sight of myself naked and I really didn’t like what I saw.

So I’ve told DD we need to go on a health kick together. We are a bit competitive, so I am thinking it could be like the way we battle to get the best photos when we’re on holidays.

My plans have come a little unstuck by me feeling too crook to bother with healthy eating or exercise, while DD has been at a conference in San Diego where crab cakes and lobster tacos are on the menu.

Crab cakes and lobster tacos are irresistible!

But next week is looking good for cutting back and shaping up.

It will be challenging going on a health kick when I am invited to drinks functions several times a week, but I want to feel comfortable in a cossie more than I want to consume endless canapes.

Wish me luck!

And have a good weekend.
