I feel guilty about not making more of the first weekend of spring. It was spectacular!
Well, I did dine al fresco on Friday night with DD at a casual Vietnamese place. We took along a BYO bottle of one of our favourite wines, Peterson’s Chardonnay. Yum!

And I did go for the most beautiful beach walk from Dee Why to Long Reef on Saturday morning. I felt so lucky to live in such a beautiful country.
As my friend Emily and I looked down at the ocean from the boardwalk you could have sworn it was a scene from a tropical island.
I took the main pic on today’s blog post along the way. It’s totally unfiltered, exactly as it looked on the day. Stunning.
The youngest arrived on Saturday afternoon ahead of Father’s Day. So I took the kids to an Indonesian cafe up the road for dinner. Conversation included them both professing to be hermits who want to live alone in studio apartments.
They seem a little young to be so anti-social. But it does explain why the eldest waits for me to go to bed before pottering around in the kitchen late at night.
Then on Sunday morning I dashed up to Newie to see my dad for Father’s Day.

I ran a bit late because I decided to wear my fabulous new moss green linen pants and had a fashion crisis in front of the mirror because none of my existing wardrobe and accessories do them justice.
So there was a lot of trying on and taking off that made me 20 minutes late. I’m still not entirely happy with the final ensemble. Maybe it would look better if I lost 10kg?
When I arrived in Newcastle the dining table was buzzing with conversation – our childhood neighbour Lindy and her mum were there chatting about the old days in Ashbury Street.
My sister and Lindy literally met there at birth and have been besties ever since.
After they headed off we spent a few more hours together around the table, chatting and enjoying quiche and salad for lunch before heading back down the freeway.
But something was missing from my weekend.
I felt I should have gone for a dip in the ocean or something else outdoorsy to celebrate the balmy conditions (although the water was under 18C, so perhaps a little too refreshing). But I didn’t get around to it.
By the time I got back home late on Sunday afternoon I was pretty beat and still had a speech to write for the Australian Gin Awards this week – I am giving a two-minute spiel on what it was like to judge the traditional gin liqueurs category …. eeek!
So Sunday ended with me tapping away at the computer rather than enjoying the sunshine.
How was your weekend?
