Bear with me

I walked the dogs at 9.30pm last night while wearing a singlet. In August!

It wasn’t the slightest bit cold.

What is going on with the weather?

According to Weatherzone many coastal locations in NSW are edging close to record-setting territory.

By 1pm yesterday it had reached 29.4°C at Sydney Airport.

Further up the coast, Evans Head reached a whopping 34.3°C just after 1pm.

Prior to my end-of-world climate change conniptions, I had a lovely time at an Amora Hotels & Resorts media update. It was held at Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney, just around the corner from my Wynyard Station bus stop.

So convenient!

The Amora Group owns and operates a range of hotel properties in Australia and Thailand and has a big focus on personalised customer service, which was on display at the event I attended.

Everyone was so kind and friendly, I felt like I’d been invited into someone’s home rather than a fancy hotel.

After the update, we headed downstairs to Brooksy bar, which Amora recently spent $2million updating.

It has a 1920’s themed speakeasy vibe and features chic art deco interiors. We were served cocktails from a list created by beverage director Brendan Hill (pictured above with lovely executive chef Hemant Dadlani) alongside nibbles including Yuzu scallops with ikura and wasabi, Duck a l’orange croquettes and Sydney Rock Oysters with finger lime and wasabi-ponzu.

The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were very spectacular.

The most Instaworthy one was the TAISHŌ – Yuzu sake, gin, strawberry, calpico and miso. It was very theatrical with its bubble and smoke.

The team wanted to know what I thought about the cocktails and I said they were very nice, but I preferred less fruity offerings. They asked me to name my favourite tipple and within seconds an Old Fashioned was placed before me. Bless them!

I made lots of new friends at the event and caught up with a few old ones, including one of my sister’s mates, Carolyn (above). Carolyn is the Commercial Property Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald.

While I am striking a crazy pose with her, I was actually very restrained and mainly photographed the cocktails rather than drinking them. I was also the first person to – reluctantly – leave, as I’d promised to make chicken curry for the eldest’s dinner.

I popped around the corner and jumped onto the bus to head home, don an apron and assume mothering duties.

I promise not to blog about booze tomorrow. I am staying home for the next few nights and will be very dull indeed.

Song of the day: Oasis “Champagne Supernova” (can you believe they’re getting back together?)
