I am annoyed with myself. The pain in my glutes and thigh is creeping back and my inertia is to blame.
I went to see an orthopaedic surgeon who gave very clear instructions on what I needed to do: join a physiocise class, go on a bleisure trip to the Sunshine Coast to see Australia’s best hip physio, stop walking up hills, cancel my gym membership and get a cortisone injection. There was also talk about getting hormone replacement therapy or at least making an appointment to see a doctor with expertise in that area, in case it might help.
The cortisone injection was given on the spot after my appointment, so that was a no-brainer. I cancelled my gym membership and stopped walking up hills. But I didn’t join a physiocise class or book a trip to see Australia’s best hip physio or make an appointment to see a doctor with expertise in middle-aged health issues.
I’ve barely have time to clean my teeth recently, let alone focus on my health. But that is no excuse for letting something this important slide.
Instead of taking action I have been sitting at a desk for 12-14 hours a day making things worse. And now I risk heading back to the painful situation I was in a few months ago.
Eeejit.
But I am feeling cornered by responsibility. I have too much on my plate. I work full time, I spend my nights writing stories for my drinks website and I need to do another weekend of work on my next book.
Once the book is done I am going to try and cut down the hours I spend in front of the computer.
I will also be a temporary empty nester from tomorrow. The kids are going to France with their dad for most of July.
So there will be a little less work on the parenting front – just two dogs to look after.
Last night, for example, was spent making homemade chicken soup for the youngest, who is trying to fight a cold before flying out. She seems to have been fighting a cold for most of the year so I am hoping a European summer break will do her some good.
It is going to be VERY quiet without the kids. I will try not to cry when I drop them at the airport tomorrow.
OK, enough self pity from me! Tell me something fun you are doing this weekend.
Song of the day: Everything But The Girl “Missing”
will they watch any of the Olympics while in France?
the cortisone injections work quickly. I had 1 last week, they said could take a day or 2 to kick in, but was immediate. That overnite throbbing is a killer!!
Nah, I think the are too early for that – they’ve gone for the Tour de France
