Dawn patrol

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when a teenager needs to get up early the whole household will be awake with them.

Not because they are offering support but because it is impossible to sleep as a teenager stampedes around the place getting their very important teen business done.

In this case the teenager also needed something from the laundry, so the hounds were released, which added to the levels of noisy chaos as the fluffballs scratched at my bedroom door pre-6am.

I sighed and struggled out of bed to discover a pile of my child’s worldly possessions, the fruits of our Sunday labour at IKEA and a bag full of clanky stuff from my kitchen in the hallway, ready to be transported to her dorm room at university.

An upside of the early wake-up was that I got to see the last glimmers of a very impressive sunrise – see above – as I set off to walk the dogs.

I also got to wear my new gym shorts that I bought on Sunday while killing time before IKEA opened. Fortuitously there was a Decathalon next door with a sale on.

It had Puma gym shorts for the bargain price of $20, but only in XL. I figured I could tighten them with the drawstring, but no, it turns out I am an XL in Puma gymwear.

It’s a little discomforting. While I am a bit chonky, I would not regard myself as being the largest person that gymwear should accommodate.

Fashion sizing has a lot to answer for … but I should probably also think about going on the Mediterranean Diet my doctor suggested … along with doing the 150 hip bridges a day that my physio suggested …

Finally, how frigging hot was it yesterday? I was soooooo wilted. And my enthusiasm went steadily downhill as the hours ticked past and the problems piled up.

The personal ones included the youngest texting to say she’d made a mistake and would actually need to be at uni for the next two weeks doing her chemistry bridging course … and she has my car … and I need my car to take the dogs to get their shaggy hair clipped on Wednesday.

Oh and she remembered she’s down to the last two tablets prescribed by one of her many specialists, so I will be begging for a new prescription today.

Yesterday’s early start meant I was shatttered by the time I served dinner and in bed way too early. So I woke at 5.30am this morning and the cycle continues …

There is no pretty sunrise today, just the sound of drenching rain. It’s going to be a soggy dog walk and subsequent commute to the city.

Hello Tuesday, I’m not ready for you.

Song of the day: Crowded House “Distant sun”
