It won’t save me

I went against another piece of my doctor’s advice and got a COVID-19 booster shot yesterday.

She said it wouldn’t stop me getting COVID-19 and told me not to bother, but after seeing how rampantly it’s running through Australia I decided it couldn’t hurt.

COVID-19 has ruined my last three Christmases. DD was trapped in the Northern Beaches lockdown for Christmas in 2020. The kids and I came down with it in Fiji for Christmas 2021 and then I caught it for Christmas 2022.

Christmas 2022 was the sickest I have ever been. Couldn’t raise my head off the pillow for days.

And the latest strain is very bad according to those I know who’ve come down with it.

So I’ve been jabbed, my shoulder hurts like Hades and I expect to feel a bit off by late this afternoon.

Plus the picture I’ve used is inaccurate because apparently Moderna has the most up-to-date vaccine, so I got that one.

As for the chance I’ll still catching COVID-19, I’m not sure I’d notice if I had a fever at the moment as it is so freaking hot in Sydney.

Not much else happened yesterday other than taking the youngest to the neurologist for a 10 minute appointment that cost $280 and didn’t achieve much other than another prescription for another drug to try to fix her concussion headaches.

Which reminds me, I said I’d tell you why it was such a relief that she got an ATAR. I can’t recall if I told you this, but she didn’t sit her HSC exams due to her ongoing concussion symptoms.

Instead we amassed vast amounts of paperwork from various specialists and met with her GP every day of the exams to obtain certificates to say she was medically unfit. Then we submitted them and prayed for an estimated ATAR.

It was a very stressful few months, but the estimated ATAR arrived the same day as all the other kids got theirs.

Phew.

And now she can leave me to attend university in another city and my heart may break from missing her.

Letting go is hard.

  1. I’m getting every shot there is…..flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia….I’ve friends that tell me not to, it’s all a government conspiracy because they saw it on xfiles….with COVID and the flu, even it makes it less severe it’s worth at it….

  2. One of my brothers-in-law is an ICU doctor in a big hospital. He treats the results of not getting the boosters. He reckons they are worth it, so we follow his advice.
