I went to a cocktail masterclass at a newish bar in Barangaroo last night called Cardea. Cardea is very luxe – lots of velvet booths and chandeliers.
It was an influencer-heavy gig, which is very entertaining because they film EVERYTHING, as per the pic above.

The bartender was the most lovely bloke called George. He taught me how to make a Tommy’s Margarita. I didn’t tell him it was my favourite cocktail and I already have the recipe down pat … he was a little freaked out by my measures – 2 parts tequila, one part lime, 1/2 part agave – I think he makes his with a little less tequila.
Snowflake.
I, on other hand, was a little freaked out by the fact that there was no food. Not a single mouthful. Middle-aged chicks at cocktail functions need to EAT.

Twentysomething influencers appear to survive on air and weren’t bothered by the lack of sustenance.

Zoom in on the pic above to see me yakking up a storm up the back while a young thing poses her ass off for the camera in front of me.
Fortunately I got home and discovered the youngest had left lots of homemade pizza with proscuitto, potato and basil in the fridge so I hooked into that.
I took a former colleague to the cocktail thingie.
Ioni and I first met when I was working at Cosmopolitan magazine and she was in the PR department at Sony Pictures.
She would invite me to private screenings of movies, which was bulk fun.
We met up again while working at The Drinks Association together a while back. There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, so it was lovely to catch up over Champagne and cocktails.

We were meant to take a selfie but we forgot because we were so la-la from Champagne and cocktails and NO FOOD.
Ioni was letting off steam because her son finished the HSC yesterday and being the parent of a teenager doing the HSC is pretty arduous. (I will fill you in on the dramas that have dominated my HSC mothering at a later date.)
I have promised to invite Ioni to something with food next time we catch up.
Have a fab weekend. I will be flat out like a lizard drinking. Just for something completely different.
Stand by for the hectic details next week.
