Costly decision

I felt slightly panicked yesterday when the youngest emerged from her bedroom complaining about being sick.

She has some sort of virus, which is pretty cruel when she hardly leaves the house due to her concussion. She must have caught it at the AFLW game she watched on Sunday.

I do NOT want to catch it because I am going away for three nights and I NEED THIS BREAK.

The last few months have been a hard slog, so I am very excited to be switching off for a little while.

A longer break would be good, but it’s not practical at this point in the parenting and career journey.

I will share all the details about the trip when I return, but what I will say now is that getting ready for a holiday that involves a cossie is BLOODY EXPENSIVE and time consuming.

I am going somewhere that calls for something classier than my current K-Mart swimsuit. Ka-ching!

Wearing a swimsuit requires a bikini wax. Ka-ching!

Wanting to look presentable in holiday photos also demands a brow wax and eyelash tint. Ka-ching!

Lying on the beautician’s table leads to discussions about “hormonal hair” … and the decision to add chin and upper lip waxing. Ka-ching!

Being a redhead means procuring sunscreen and a big hat. Ka-ching!

Dry cleaning a silky frock to swan around in at night costs almost as much as the dress itself. Ka-ching!

Packing the holiday frock leads to fears that billowing flesh will be exposed due to too-tight bras and leads to lingerie restocking. Ka-ching!

The bottom line is that the children’s inheritance has been spent before I even step on the plane this morning.

But, hey, you only live once.

Stand by for the lowdown next week.

Gotta dash! DD is collecting me at 7am and I haven’t decided on my plane outfit, walked the dogs, sent my Drinks Digest newsletter out or shaved my legs yet …
