It’s a random world

Upon reflection, celebrating DD’s festival of the significant birthday at a really cool bar wasn’t the best idea last night.

Well, it had its moments.

Let me start at the beginning. Following the success of its first batch of Tokay Barrel Whisky, Morris launched a new edition of the spirit at a bar called Bridge Lane last night.

Produced solely from Australian ingredients, this Tokay Barrel release is matured predominately in toasted French oak, before finishing in barrels that have held the award-winning 15-year-old Morris Cellar Reserve Grand Topaque.

The liquid embodies the characteristic Rutherglen Topaque style of delicate fresh fruit and ripe muscadelle grapes, intertwined with notes of creamy butterscotch and caramelised oak, with an additional hint of toasted spice for subtle complexity.

Is your mouth watering?

The second release of Morris Tokay Barrel has already been awarded Platinum at the USA SIP Awards and a Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in 2023.

I forgot to sip it neat, but I enjoyed it immensely in a variety of delicious cocktails, accompanied by a very impressive charcuterie selection and surrounded by a huge crowd of people.

I convinced DD to come along because he’s a fan of Morris Whisky and also because I was nervous about turning up alone.

I have no idea why this continues to be a fear for me because I knew a gazillion people in the room.

They included Amy from my magazine past and Corinne from my drinks current.

I’m not sure about my drinks future, but I am hoping it is bright.

Oliver from The Whisky List was also there. He is such a nice bloke, which reminds me that I didn’t share this pic of him in a sleigh at a Brown-Forman Christmas function we attended last week.

I lead a very random life …

On the downside, DD had already made the 45 minute trek into the city once yesterday to have lunch with his mum and kids for his birthday, then he had to turn around and drive his mum home before catching the bus into town for the Morris function.

I am also currently about 75% deaf for some unknown health reason, so I couldn’t hear anything anyone was saying and no one could understand anything I was saying (even before I started hooking into the cocktails) because I couldn’t tell whether I was whispering or yelling.

Must investigate ear vaccuuming options today.

DD and I are getting too old for this whirl … mind you, I was home by 8pm …

And now I’m signing off early for the week due to significant birthday festivities. Have a great weekend and normal HouseGoesHome service should resume on Monday. I think the worst of my deadline pressures should be almost over then.

Song of the day: Split Enz “Give it a whirl”
