The light at the end

The youngest is meant to start her trial HSC today, but she’s at home on doctor’s orders.

Her concussion symptoms aren’t going away and endless medical appointments and tests are failing to get to the bottom of why.

We’re just being told it’s a matter of time and patience.

I wish the matter of time wasn’t during such a crucial period of her final year at school.

And I am not very good at patience.

She has a medical certificate for the next two weeks. Who knows what happens after that has she has been unable to study for three weeks already.

In happier news I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for my various projects and my stress levels surrounding those are beginning to lift slightly.

In even happier news, the festival of DD’s significant birthday kicked off on Saturday night with a banquet dinner with four of his friends at China Lane in the city.

(I look sooooooo puffy and tired in the pic, even after extensive photoshopping. That health kick really must start soon. It will be a bit tricky during significant birthday week …)

The courses at the celebration launch dinner included crispy chicken with umeshu wine, plum & Japanese soy and Togarashi cuttlefish with chilli and garlic vinegar.

Nom, nom!

We have a couple of other things planned this week, so I can’t promise I will blog every day, but let’s see how I go.

I’m also a bit out of practice with the daily blogging.

Here’s a short recap of what I’ve been up to since I last typed …

Aside from various medical appointments for the youngest, I’ve been working like a crazy woman from 7.30am to 10pm every day due to all my work projects colliding at the same time. Argh!

The eldest is loving their new job in the piercing salon and has many entertaining tales to tell at the dinner table.

I have been pondering life’s big questions, like “Will how much I will miss my kids when they leave home be cancelled out by how much I won’t miss the mess they make?”

I was very sad to hear Sinead O’Conner passed away. Her incredible voice and shaved head were pretty iconic during my youth as she sang her “Nothing Compares 2U” hit. It was my go-to sobbing track when my romances went sour.

I’ve been blown away by the crowds at all the stadiums, FIFA Fan Festivals and pubs for the Women’s World Cup. How awesome is it to finally see women’s sport so brightly in the spotlight?

Less awesome is how dodgy my health has been. I am exhausted and my nose and ears have been so congested for weeks.

Things peaked when I was going to bed on Friday night, I suddenly started feeling VERY sick for some unknown reason. Cue harrowing, unexplained vomiting episode. Blerk.

But I’ve been perking up, rather than perking, ever since and am hopeful that the bathroom incident was a one-off and not a sign that my disaccharide deficiencies are returning.

Hope it’s been a good past week for you and a great one ahead.

  1. wow. concussions are a challenge…mine will be 4 years ago this November..and I know it’s still with me, might have something to do with the fractured skull….the last xray I had said it was healed, but I still get headaches, so??….and yes, Sinead….Mandinka had me sold, was lucky enough to see her live once at our folk festival in 1997, she opened with an all female band that was amazing….she opened, those four days included amazing set with Los Lobos and Blue Rodeo and I do not remember who else, but at the end, she’s the one I remember….and it’s amazing how many others have been so affect by her passing at 56!….she meant a lot to a lot of people…
